INRIX launches an alerting system that helps drivers avoid dangerous situations

KIRKLAND, Wash. – March 24, 2021 – INRIX, Inc., a leader in mobility insights, today announced a new standard for streamlined and personalized traffic safety, incident and parking notifications that doesn’t require additional software or an in-car navigation system. INRIX Smart Alerts is a new automotive-grade, cloud-based alerting solution to help drivers save lives, time and fuel.

Unlike traditional radius-based push alerts, Smart Alerts uses Artificial Intelligence and a vehicle’s probable route along Intercept Paths to notify only the vehicles that could be impacted. With the world’s largest collection of mobility data, INRIX can immediately detect congestion, dangerous slowdowns and road closures through anomalies in traffic flow.

INRIX Smart Alerts provides helpful notifications even when drivers are not using navigation:

  • Dangerous Slowdowns: Advanced algorithms continually monitor traffic data from real-time sources to identify significant speed deltas on the road network. Drivers on the path of a sudden speed decrease are provided a notification to reduce their speed, decreasing rear-end collisions.
  • Incidents: When a road closure, construction project, collision, roadway debris or other incidents occur (planned or not), Smart Alerts quickly notifies relevant drivers with the information they need to make the best route decisions and avoid delays.
  • Parking Rules: Smart Alerts leverages INRIX Parking to inform drivers of parking restrictions that will affect them. When a connected car is shifted into Park, Smart Alerts will immediately inform the driver of specific parking restrictions for that particular spot, helping avoid a potential parking fine or towing.

“All drivers deserve timely and relevant alerts that actually apply to them – whether it’s avoiding a hard-braking slowdown or a parking ticket,” said Greg Corley, new INRIX senior vice president of automotive. “INRIX Smart Alerts can predict and notify only the affected vehicles, leaving all others undisturbed.”

Corley joined INRIX in February to lead the company’s automotive strategy and sales efforts. He brings more than 25 years of automotive experience, including various sales and business development positions at Aeris, Agero and SiriusXM.

INRIX collects billions of anonymous data points every day from a diverse set of sources, including connected vehicles, cities, DOTs, road weather conditions, journalistic incidents, social media, parking, mobile and other IoT devices. With the ability to offer transportation services on every road in the world in areas of coverage, INRIX is the preferred provider of mobility intelligence for leading automakers, transit agencies and businesses.

INRIX becomes the first parking information provider to distribute data to and through multiple HERE channels

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – September 15, 2020 – HERE Technologies, the leading location data and platform company, today announced that INRIX, a leader in connected car services and mobility analytics, will partner to offer a complete parking solution that includes on-street and off-street parking availability, dynamic rates and indoor mapping to HERE automotive customers.

HERE Parking, a connected vehicle service available around the world which makes finding a spot faster and easier, will leverage INRIX for static and dynamic, on-street parking data in more than 1,100 cities (65 countries) and off-street parking data in more than 20,000 cities (150 countries). The combination of INRIX data and HERE location services can navigate the driver to an available spot inside a parking garage, seamlessly transition to a companion mobile app for continued guidance inside a building like an airport or shopping mall, then return the driver to their car with a convenient find-my-car feature. For electric vehicles (EV), drivers will be mapped to the right parking spot with the appropriate charging capabilities.

HERE and INRIX also plan to collaborate around new, innovative parking solutions for automotive customers and beyond. Additionally, INRIX will leverage the HERE Marketplace to further monetize their traffic analytics data sets.

“Our goal has always been to create best-in-class mobility solutions, and our continuing and growing partnership with HERE takes us one step closer. The combined reach of our innovation, coverage and expertise will help drivers around the world find parking smarter and faster,” said Bryan Mistele, president and CEO of INRIX.

By coupling the learned behaviors of HERE Parking like price versus walking distance with INRIX’s real-time data, analytics and coverage, the new data available via HERE Marketplace will provide leading global coverage and information while guiding drivers to on-street spaces with the highest probability of being available.

“As we continue to build a robust end-to-end ecosystem of connected car solutions on the HERE platform, we see this as a natural first step towards a gateway for in-car commerce,” said Edzard Overbeek, CEO of HERE Technologies. “Our HERE Parking team continue to push the product forward with speed, welcoming co-innovation from our partners at INRIX and backed by the go-to-market approach HERE is known for.”

HERE Parking offers automakers an end-to-end, location-enabled user experience throughout people’s journey with integrated indoor and parking services. The neutral, digital inventory connects parking and mobility service providers, enabling integrated parking and charging recommendations, reservations and transactions, combined with (indoor) location services.

INRIX continues to help some of the biggest transportation agencies around the world solve their problems with mobility intelligence.

Today INRIX announced that five new state departments of transportation (DOT) have signed on to leverage INRIX traffic services for a wide variety of transportation system management, operations and performance measurement applications. To date, 17 state DOTs in the U.S. now subscribe to INRIX real-time traffic services, covering nearly 600,000 miles and 40% of the nation’s limited access highways.

In the last three months, five states have either initiated or expanded statewide subscriptions for INRIX real-time traffic services. Tennessee DOT, Oregon DOT, and Louisiana DOTD have joined a growing number of states relying upon INRIX for real-time transportation insights on statewide road networks. Additionally, Texas DOT and Rhode Island DOT/DOA have expanded to include statewide INRIX services. These states are also benefiting from the INRIX and University of Maryland’s CATT Lab partnership to provide real-time and historical roadway analytics tools.

“More than a decade ago, INRIX was the first company in the United States to offer public agencies real-time speed, travel time and congestion data solely based on crowd-sourced data. State agencies increasingly understand the cost-effectiveness of using crowd-sourced data to monitor and manage their vast road network to improve safety and increase network reliability.”
