Parking citation under the windshield wiper of a car.A Massachusetts man found a parking ticket he received in Maine back in 1978 and it ate at him–so much so that he mailed the ticket and a check for the $3 fine and $1 late fee to the York, Maine Police Department. They were so surprised and amused by it that the whole thing’s being framed for display in their office.

“I hope I can now safely travel through the state of Maine without always looking in my rearview mirror,” the man wrote in a letter.

The police department initially thought the ticket was from 2018 but its numbering didn’t match anything anyone remembered. In the end everybody wins: The ticket-payer gets his peace of mind and the department gets a great story. Pretty good deal.
