The APO with Distinction is an international designation that recognizes national and international standards for parking management and operations, customer service, professional development, security, sustainability, and more.
The International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI) has officially awarded reaccreditation to the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) Pentagon Services Division, designating the Pentagon Parking Management Office (PMO) as an Accredited Parking Organization (APO) with Distinction.
This premier credential serves as the parking, transportation, and mobility industry’s benchmark for organizational excellence, evaluating over 100 criteria across 14 categories in addition to 25 core requirements. To achieve this status, organizations must demonstrate the highest standards in professional operations, security, sustainability, and customer service.
“The APO with Distinction is the top benchmark of success in our industry, achieved only after a comprehensive documentation and review process,” said Shawn Conrad, CAE, CEO of IPMI, the organization that establishes the standards for the Program. The APO Program recognizes industry standards that develop, ensure, and support high levels of professionalism and competency in parking, transportation, and mobility management. “Only best-of-class organizations can meet the demanding level of excellence required to gain this level of accreditation,” Conrad added.
“This recognition speaks volumes about our dedicated team’s unrivaled daily commitment to maintaining world-class parking operations for our Department of War Headquarters personnel who support our warfighters,” said Mrs. Regina Meiners, Director of WHS. “The coveted award reaffirms the hard work, innovation, and unmatched standard of excellence our entire organization devotes to our unique mission, managing a highly complex, secure, and dynamic parking environment every day.”
A Commitment to World-Class Service
The PMO earned this distinction through its robust service portfolio, providing both in-person and online customer support, alongside its successful management of long-term and short-term parking programs. The office supports critical requirements across the Pentagon Reservation, serving the Department of War, the Office of the Secretary of War, the Military Services, other Pentagon agencies, and non-Governmental partners.
The PMO and Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) collaborate on daily parking enforcement efforts, including their mutual use of the Pentagon’s new online parking management system’s parking enforcement portal.
Additionally, the PMO ensures operational integrity and fairness through its active Parking Adjudication Program, which protects the parking rights of authorized permit holders and visitors.
Navigating a Complex Mission Environment
Managing parking at one of the world’s most recognizable defense facilities requires precise operational agility. The PMO team is responsible for coordinating strategic communications, conducting in-depth parking analyses, providing logistics for high-profile special events, and developing coordination plans for major construction projects.
Through proactive planning, the team minimizes disruptions and maintains seamless parking operations across the entire Pentagon Reservation.
With this reaccreditation, WHS and the PMO continue to set the standard for defense-sector parking, mobility, and administrative excellence, ensuring that our Nation’s warfighters remain focused on their critical missions without logistical friction.
