More than 20 U.S. federal agencies released climate adaptation plans in response to an executive order asking government as a whole to address climate change. Plans to mitigate environmental effects while increasing equity and access to services that include transit were developed by agencies that include Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Transportation.
“The Department of Transportation identified a range of notable potential climate change impacts, including more frequent and severe flooding of underground tunnels and low-lying infrastructure, heat-induced rail buckling and expansions and degradation of paved surfaces, air traffic disruption due to severe weather, and worsened driver and operator performance due to adverse weather-related fatigue,” reported SmartCitiesDive.
