Early access is open now; the system opens to everyone January 1, 2027. Operators can test it beside their current system with a “shadow lane” before changing anything.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — 72Knots.ai today announced Open Parking AI, a complete parking system released as open source. To the company’s knowledge, it is the first and only enterprise-level parking system made available this way.

The software is free. It runs on ordinary network cameras from common retailers, with no ticket machine. The source code is public today under the AGPL-3.0 license, which keeps it open: no one can take it, close it and resell it as a proprietary product. Development happens in public, and every change is visible as it is made.

The car is the ticket. Open Parking AI identifies the vehicle itself at entry and exit, so it does not depend on a readable license plate. The plate is one signal among several. The system is designed to report when it is unsure rather than guess, so it does not open a gate or charge a card on an uncertain match. Removing the paper ticket also removes what comes with it: ticket stock, dispensers, pay stations, jams and lost-ticket exits.

More than the lane. Open Parking AI includes the operator and customer tools around the gate:

  • Gate Agent: answers the intercom, watches the lane and calls a person only when something is really wrong.
  • My Portal: parkers sign up, add vehicles, pull receipts and manage their own accounts.
  • Monthly parkers: signup, billing and account management without paperwork.
  • Open Pass: express entry and exit for daily parkers, with no ticket and no stop at a machine.
  • Online signup for parking customers.
  • Online validations: businesses such as medical offices, restaurants and retailers validate their own customers’ parking online.
  • Front desk module: hotels and resorts post parking directly to the guest’s room.
  • Fully integrated with Valet Parking AI: valet and self-park run as one system, on one identity for the vehicle.

The shadow lane. Operators who want proof first can install a few cameras at their existing entry and exit. The shadow lane runs beside the garage’s current system without touching the gates or taking payments. It records every vehicle in and out and shows the operator, or the owner, what the facility is losing, or not losing. The result is real numbers from their own garage. It gives owners an independent check on their operation, and gives operators a way to show it.

Run it yourself, or in the cloud. Operators can run Open Parking AI on their own servers. Running it takes a server and someone to manage the technology. Operators who prefer not to can run it on the 72Knots.ai cloud.

“We are not a software company, and we are not selling software,” said Gokhan Gulec, founder of 72Knots.ai. “Every parking operator should be able to sit down and build a system like this with AI. The tools were built for software people, not for the people who run the floor. The 72 Knots Method is simple: get on the floor and listen. Human or AI, it works the same. I made it ready, so nobody has to wait.”

Gulec spent eight years parking cars and twelve years running a valet system company before founding 72Knots.ai. Open Parking AI was built with AI under his direction.
