The Economist last week ran an article about “The Chance to Transform Urban Planning.” It covered new ways cities can be designed in the future, including the possibility of the “garden city” becoming a real thing, thanks to one big technology. What is it?
Autonomous vehicles. Using data and trends forecasts, the piece argues that the dawn of AVs could spell prosperity or disaster for cities, which have, in recent history, been designed around the needs of cars. “For the first time in a generation,” the article says, “We can really rethink what suburban development looks like.”
