Dockless bike share systems, which allow users to leave bikes anywhere in a geofenced area when they’re finished riding, are among the hottest trends in greater mobility. But residents of one Washington, D.C., neighborhood are so upset about a program near them that the police took to social media to ask them to stop calling 911 on users.
Some people who live in the Georgetown area are beyond frustrated that bike share bikes are being left on sidewalks in their neighborhood, and they recently encouraged members of a local email list to call 911 on bikers. The police haven’t tracked how many calls they’ve received as a result, but took it seriously enough to issue a statement reminding D.C. residents that 911 isn’t an appropriate outlet for such concerns.
