Real-life Connections in a Virtual World

How not to suck at virtual networkingBy Kim Fernandez

Raise your hand if big-event networking can be a little overwhelming.

Now raise it if the thought of that same networking during a virtual event makes your head hurt a little bit.

I thought so.

As it turns out—and this was news to me—virtual networking is a very big thing. You can absolutely attend an online event and come away with the same valuable contacts you’d make face to face (slightly awkward small talk optional).

Take a minute and a half (seriously) and check out this video that offers some great tips to set yourself up to expand your contact list and make great industry connections while you attend an event (say, the 2020 IPMI Virtual Parking & Mobility Conference & Expo June 1-2, not that I’m biased) from home. Get your note-taking pen ready—the takeaways are plentiful and fast.

I’m looking forward to connecting with more people than ever during my next virtual event. Wanna race me?

My First Virtual Conference

IPMI goes virtualBy Justin Grunert

In the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, IPMI decided to transition from an in-person Conference to a virtual event. Our first priority was to keep all of our attendees, sponsors, and vendors safe.

It saddens me that I won’t be able to see many of you in person this year. But I am happy that I will still be able to interact with you virtually.

This may be your first virtual conference—the same for me. I have never attended a virtual event on this scale and am very excited to be a part of it!

Being part of IPMI’s professional development team, I’m looking forward to the process of making this year’s IPMI Conference & Expo a reality. We will be bringing you more than 40 hours of education, both live and on-demand. Every attendee will have the option to attend all of the education sessions and visit our virtual Expo hall.

With only weeks until the start of the Conference, here are five things to keep in mind:

  1. Review the agenda. The schedule shows our live events and the Virtual Expo Hall. Don’t worry about missing any sessions. IPMI will record all education sessions, and you will have access to those recordings until June 2, 2021.
  2. Find something new to learn! Review both the on-demand and live sessions and watch or attend those sessions. When I approach an event, I think about a problem or a skill I want to learn more about, and I make those sessions my priority.
  3. Network, network, network. IPMI will have virtual areas where you can discuss topics and network with your peers.
  4. Earn CAPP Points. This year will give you the best opportunity to earn the 25 CAPP Points for your new application or help fill in those holes for your recertification.
  5. Have fun! Remember, this will be the only conference you can attend while wearing your loungewear.

I am looking forward to seeing each and every one of you at this year’s Conference & Expo.

IPMI News: Important Message from the IPMI CEO & Chair

#IPMI2020 Goes Virtual

Pivoting our Conference & Expo to a Virtual Event

Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our members, partners, and employees. During the last few weeks, we have been closely monitoring the evolving situation with the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure we are taking every precaution to look after our community. After careful consideration, we’ve decided there will be no physical event for the 2020 IPMI Conference & Expo. Instead, we will reimagine the 2020 IPMI Conference & Expo as a virtual experience.

Tentatively scheduled for June 1 – 2, 2020, the IPMI Virtual Parking & Mobility Conference & Expo will deliver the education that is the hallmark of our association to you, wherever you are. In the coming weeks, we will release the comprehensive education program, online networking, and virtual Expo.

We are working to get the information you need as quickly as possible. Our Conference team is in the process of finalizing plans and will launch an FAQ page for attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors, addressing registration for the virtual event and all refund options. Our team will be in touch with you on or before April 10, 2020.

Few industries pull together to support their community like ours, and we thank you for your confidence in the weeks and months ahead. In the interim, IPMI will host free online industry-specific Shoptalks addressing the COVID-19 crisis and the industry response beginning this Tuesday, March 24 and continuing March 31, with additional resources to come. These will be offered live and recorded to share with those who can’t attend; click here to pre-register.

We look forward to supporting you in this critical time and unveiling the IPMI Virtual Parking & Mobility Conference & Expo. Your support in continuing the important work of advancing the parking, transportation, and mobility industry is greatly appreciated. It is an honor and a privilege for IPMI to serve our members and the entire community.
