Member News: Kimley-Horn Named One of 2020 Best Places to Work for Millenials

“I started my career at Kimley-Horn and never expected to fall in love with the world of parking, but I am so thankful I did. Senior leaders have provided me with opportunities to take this passion and run with it, getting the chance to be involved in exciting projects that often have been unlike any other projects we’ve done in the firm. I am appreciative of the encouragement and support I receive to pursue parking projects, participate and present at conferences, and work towards certifications that will help our firmwide Parking practice grow!”

Member News: Texas A&M Transportation Services Opens New Parking Garage on Campus

The Texas A&M University community returned to campus this fall to find a new parking structure located on the northeast corner of the campus in College Station, TX. The Polo Road Garage is a 1,680-space, 5-level structure with an attached food court, recreation center, and office space for the University’s Transportation Services department. The garage was constructed on an existing surface parking facility adjacent to Texas A&M’s Emerging Technologies Building.

Working in conjunction with the prime architect, PGAL (Houston, TX), Blake Hodge, P.E. (Frisco, TX), led Kimley-Horn’s parking team to develop the master planning, programming, parking schematic design, and final construction drawings. Chris Harris, P.E. (Bryan/College Station, TX), led Kimley-Horn’s civil team, providing traffic impact analysis and civil engineering design for the demolition of the existing surface parking area, new storm drainage, water and sanitary sewer utilities, grading and paving— including the reconstruction of Polo Road—and construction phase services for the approximate 9-acre site.

The Polo Road Garage is one of nine new parking facilities recommended in the University’s 2017 Campus Maser Plan. The garage opened to parking in August while the remainder of the building is anticipated to be completed in early 2021.

“We are excited to have this state-of-the-art parking facility open and available for use by our community,” said Texas A&M Transportation Services Associate Vice President Peter Lange. “We are confident Polo Road Garage is the next step in delivering the ultimate parking experience to our customers and are thankful to the Kimley-Horn team for their exceptional work on this project. We had a critical timeline to open the garage for the fall semester, and because of their hard work and commitment to excellence, we hit that target.”
