Racism is a subject many people don’t understand and are not comfortable discussing. While employers would rather not have these discussions, not discussing race is ignoring reality. Race has been an issue for centuries and it’s time to discuss it, understand it, and realize the impact and role it plays in the workplace.
Understanding racism will enable you to grow personally and professionally. This workshop will address perception versus reality. We will discuss systemic racism, what it is, what it looks like, and what it feels like. We’ll also discuss racial micro-aggressions and their impact on human resources, team building, and work relationships. We’ll finish with a plan on where to go from here. This topic may seem daunting but everyone needs to have this discussion. This session is for administrators, supervisors, team leaders, and team members. We will address this topic openly, carefully, and respectfully.
At the completion of this course you will be able to:
- Explain Systemic Racism including what it is, its impact in the workplace, and how to recognize it.
- Review the definitions of racial micro-aggressions and illustrate examples.
- Complete a Self-Assessment and explore how to move forward in a group discussion.
