Moving the Needle on Commute Mode through Transportation Demand Management (TDM)
June 28, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT
FREE
Offering sustainable transportation options to students and staff is the easy part. What more can you do to foster improvements in sustainable commute mode share? Transportation demand management (TDM) professionals from Stanford University, Cornell University, and University of South Florida will discuss current topics to improve the performance of more sustainable transportation modes to meet the commute needs of students and employees. Topics discussed include how university administrative staff and faculty can partner, through research to better understand what motivates us to change our travel behavior. The results are applied to improve and modify the current slate of TDM programs and services. Engaging your campus community also rests upon understanding how they communicate and developing a strategy to reach your audience using social media. The keys include knowing the direction of social media, adapting it to your purposes strategically, and five things you should do even if you choose not to have a social media presence. Forward positive momentum for sustainable transportation also depends upon wider commitments to the community as illustrated by engagement with local government and an award winning campus master plan.
