Autonomous cars can be trained to stay in lanes, obey traffic signals, watch speed limits, and react to the vehicles around them, but can they be taught to make decisions based on ethics? It’s a huge question as driverless approaches reality, and one college student made it a bit of a mission to address the question.
University of Rochester senior Josh Pachter took on the question as part of a senior scholars research program and came up with a possible solution: Let cars learn the same way children do.
