Populus Partners with City of Hoboken, New Jersey to Revolutionize Curbside Management

Hoboken joins a growing cohort of cities advancing their curb management strategies with robust technology solutions powered by Populus.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA –  Populus, the global leader for curb and mobility management solutions, is proud to announce its newest partnership with the City of Hoboken, New Jersey. Through this collaboration, Hoboken will leverage Populus’s innovative Curb Manager platform to enhance curbside management, reduce transportation climate emissions, improve safety, and more effectively manage traffic related congestion in the city as part of a larger effort the City is taking to create a citywide curbside management plan.

Populus’s Curb Manager platform offers cutting-edge solutions designed to empower cities in shaping the future of curbside management. The platform enables cities like Hoboken to digitize and analyze curb regulations, integrate diverse real-time parking data, and more actively manage curbside demand and revenue. A cornerstone of this partnership involves coding the city’s curbs — that is, creating a database of curb and parking regulations using data standards so they can be digitally communicated to connected fleets, as well as analyze curb activity.

Regina Clewlow, CEO & Co-Founder of Populus, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with the City of Hoboken to revolutionize curbside management. Our Curb Manager platform will provide Hoboken with the tools needed to make informed decisions, reduce congestion, and enhance the overall mobility experience for residents and visitors alike.”

Hoboken’s Transportation and Parking Department will spearhead the implementation of Populus’s Curb Manager platform. As the department responsible for managing all municipal transportation and parking services in Hoboken, including pedestrian facilities, bicycle infrastructure, and transit coordination, the partnership aligns with the city’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility. The City of Hoboken also announced an impressive Vision Zero achievement this year with seven consecutive years of zero traffic deaths.

Gregory Francese, Transportation Planner at the City of Hoboken, shared his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Partnering with Populus represents a significant step forward in our efforts to modernize curbside management in Hoboken. For the first time ever, we are able to visualize our curb regulations citywide. We look forward to leveraging the capabilities of the Curb Manager platform to optimize curbside access, improve traffic flow, and enhance the overall urban environment for our community.”

Populus’s partnership with Hoboken follows a trend of cities across North America embracing the concept of the digital curb and innovative curbside management solutions. The collaboration underscores Populus’s commitment to empowering cities with the tools and technologies needed to build more efficient, sustainable, and connected urban environments.

“We are thrilled to extend the work completed in Hoboken with other cities across North America with our Code the Curbs Program. This initiative pairs an impressive group of Fellows from top master’s programs with select cities to collect, translate, and digitize their curb rules into a usable format,” shared Clewlow. Applications for the Code the Curbs Program close TODAY for both cities and Fellows so Populus can complete the matching process.
