The IPMI-led Accessible Parking Coalition (APC), has just published Let’s Make Accessible Parking More Accessible. This groundbreaking, free, downloadable 24-page publication, written for parking and mobility professionals and decision-makers, was developed by a team of IPMI members serving on the APC Advisory Council, in conjunction with advocacy groups for people with disabilities. The goal is to provide a roadmap for making changes related to accessible parking and disabled placard/plate abuse, to improve access for more than 30 million Americans with mobility disabilities – a civil right supported by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Topics include statistics that confirm the scope of the problem, deterring fraudulent use of disabled placards/plates, parking design and streetscape issues that interfere with access, misuse of access aisles for van accessible parking spaces, empathetic signage, technological solutions, enforcement issues, citizen activism, and more. The publication includes dozens of ideas from cities, universities, and others, along with practical actions you can take to make a difference for 30 million Americans with disabilities.
