Kimley-Horn Names New President and Chairman

Continuing a 50-year tradition of orderly internal leadership transitions, Kimley-Horn named a new president during its annual owner’s meeting on April 29, 2018. Steven E. Lefton, PLA, a 21-year veteran of the firm, was named president; CEO John C. Atz, P.E., formerly president, moved into the role of chairman; and Brooks Peed, formerly chairman, became chairman emeritus.

A Kimley-Horn employee since 1997, Lefton began his career as a landscape architect/urban designer in Miami, later becoming leader of the firm’s Mid-America region. Regarding his new role as president and CEO, Lefton shares, “Kimley-Horn has found remarkable success in its 50-year history by providing exceptional service to our clients and maintaining a strong commitment to our employees’ growth. I look forward to supporting our employees and growing with our clients as we take our firm to the next level.”

Chairman John C. Atz says of the transition, “I am thrilled to welcome Steve as our next president. I know he will bring great ideas and passion to this role and will be a wonderful champion for Kimley-Horn’s continued success.”

Aligning with Kimley-Horn’s culture of transparency, this leadership transition process began five years ago and was announced to employees more than two years ago. The intentional effort is a result of the firm’s strategic plan and commitment to its employees and clients.
